The Read

The mood flipped this week. Wednesday's CPI hit 4.2%, a three-year high, and for a day the tape only wanted to talk about a Fed that might hold — or even hike — on June 17. Then Washington and Tehran signaled a peace deal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, crude fell back toward $85 from the mid-90s, and the inflation panic drained out. The S&P jumped 1.75% Thursday, and Safe Growth opened today up 1.0% since our last update.

Gold miners led us. NUGT added 4.4% as bullion held its bid through the rate noise, with EWW up 3.3%, PPA 2.9%, and URA 2.6% behind it. The one red mark was XLE, off 2.1% — and I'm fine with that. We own energy as ballast, not as a bet on a Hormuz spike, and a cheaper barrel helps every other name we hold.

We didn't trade. At 7.6% below entry this is still a drawdown, but the setup into next week's Fed reads better than the headlines did 48 hours ago. I'd rather hold this book steady than chase the oil tape in either direction.
