June CPI, released Tuesday, fell 0.4% on the month. June PPI, released this morning, fell 0.3%. The year-over-year lines are the ones that matter. CPI 3.5%, headline PPI 5.5%, and core PPI 4.7% against core CPI 2.6%. That is disinflation at the margin, not low inflation.
The soft months were energy giving back a spike, and that window has already closed. The Iran truce collapsed on July 8, the Strait of Hormuz was declared shut again on July 12, and Brent is back to $85.92, a one-month high. July CPI lands in mid-August, before the September meeting, and likely re-accelerates.
What that bought is a July reprieve, not a cut. Futures price an 86% hold on July 29 and a 53% hike in September. Zero cuts in 2026 carry 76.5% odds. Nearly half of policymakers signalled openness to raising rates later this year.
That matters here because this book is leveraged beta by design. SOXL and TQQQ live on the rate path, and MSTR trades with bitcoin's liquidity. The July hike scare lifting is exactly why they can breathe right now, and it is the whole near-term case. September is the risk we own out loud, and the 25% cash position is the reason we can wait for it rather than react to it.
